Born 10 June, 1946 in Cuttack, Orissa, India.
Initiated into Dance by Shri T. Satyanarayan Patra in the Devaprasad style of Odissi Dance. Later he specialised under Guru Pankaj Charan Das and Guru Bamani Ranjan Jena. He also learnt Hindustani Vocal Music and to play Sitar.
Received training in Chhau Dance, Stage Acting and Direction. He performed at various National and International Dance festivals. Presently he is engaged in research work in order to develope teaching method for the handicapped. Has been featured in Teleflex "Ardhanarishwar Natya Rupa". Apart from working as an electrical engineer he is the founder member of Talcher Sangeeth Mahavidyalaya, affiliated to Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Bhubaneswar. After receiving senior fellowship award from Dept of Culture Govt. Of India, he has taken voluntary Retirement from his Engineering job to dedicate his time for Art and Culture.

Stage Acting and Direction

Actively engaged in the field of Dance and Music since 1964. With exposure to different streams of Odissi dance styles have developed individuality in Style with enriched performance.

Undertaken research work in natyasastra and debadasi topic and created additional compartments in the present repertory pattern.

In the process I have taught the art of odissi dance to physically handicapped children and came out successful through excellent performances by them.

The picture "HAMARI BETI" (only indian film) has been selected for 42nd Chicago International Film Festival 2006 in main panarome.

BOLLYWOOD FILM(Acted and choreographed in picture "HAMARI BETI" directed by A.K.Bir and produced by DR.Rama Naidu.hyd) based on the life & struggle of my hearing impaired student Shakti Swarupa and me, where shakti has also performed as Heroin of the play. The subject for psychological development of phtsically handicapped.

5th Feb 2003 : At the HCL Concert series performance, at habitat world, India Habitat Center along with Asmita (Daughter and disciple ).
22nd Feb 2002 : Participted in the 17th Konark Dance and Music festival  2002.
19th to 21st Sept 2000 : Performance cum paper presentation on practice of Youga to save "Male Body" in the seminar cum workshop on "Purushanga" arranged by state and National Sangeet Natak Academy.

National seminar at KVK Auditorium Cuttack.

1999 : Attained Sansui Film festival award program , being invited by Anupam Kehr along with physically handicapped students to perform in the festival with Syamak Daber Dance troop.

In February 6th participated in national festival of cultural meet of civil defense unit at salt lake stadium Kolkata along with Asmita and group members.   

16th Jan 1997 : Successfully preasented a recital in Odissi nrutyostsava on occasion of completion of fifty of Odissi as clasical dance form arranged by state and central Sangeet Natak Academy at rabindra Mandap being invited as a guru, along with disciple sakti sourapa (hearing Impaired) and Asmita (Daughter and disciple ).
1995 : Dance performance at Engg collage Sarang at a National seminar.
1994 : Dance performance at Regional Research Labrotory at a National seminar.
11th to 14th May 1993: Attended South Asian Faternity Festival for performing Odissi and to deliver a talk on economic impact through cultural field in South Asian Countries, in presence of delegates from south-Asian countries.

Attended festival "TRIDHARA" on Guru Shisya Parampara arranged by North Central Zone cultural Center, Sahitya kala parisad and renision group Bhubaneswar, and exhibited dance tradition of Temples passedon by guru Padhmashree Pankaj Charan Das.

April 1990 At Allahabad conducted Ardhanarishwar solo Dance arranged by "Manorama Mohapatra (Editor of The Samaj )" on behalf of Servants Society.
 
18th June 1987 Started shooting of telefilm "Ardhanarishwar" at Talcher Thermal Officers Club.

April 1987 Being adjudged, was selected in TV Classical Odissi Group "B".
1986 Stage performances conducted at Puri before Gajapati MAharaja.
1973-1985 Underwent higher education in Hindustani, Vocal, Sitar, and Odissi Dance till 1985, supplemented with stage Acting and Direction continually.
1969-1973 Continued Stage and Dance Performance at BAlimela, Burla and Chiplima.
1965-1968 Performance started for college, and outside Collages in different festivals.

2002

Sakti and Falguni (two hearing impaired students) have been selected as ANJALI SCHOLAR 2002-2003 byDisabled Peoples International-India.

1997

  1. Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India awarded Senior Fellowship to conduct Research work in Natya Sashtra and Debadasi repertory pattern as well as mission for Physically Handicapped.
  2. His student Sakti Swarupa who has been trained in spite of her disability in speech and hearing, got Red Cross Award at Soochana Bhavan, Bhubaneswar on occasion of International Red Cross day. She is also adjudged a national level performer in Odissi.


1991

He was treated as new point in the almost dried up stream of debadasi Tradition and only available exponent for tradition and style of Mahari passed down by Guru Padmashree Pankaj Charan Das. Iwas also the first male exponent to perform Odissi in Lucknow never staged earlier.

Papers Published

 

  • Article "Journey through Ages for preservation and enrichment of Style" was published in Souvenir published in annual occasion.

  • Delivered a talk on economic impact through cultural field before the delegation of nine South Asian Countries in 1993.
  • Delivered a talk on innovative Teaching to hearing impaired in a national seminar on innovative choreography held at Rabindra Mandap at Bhubaneswar held by Music Circle in 1995.
  • On the ocession of PurushAnga Seminar paper was presented on the subject "Practice of Yoga to shape the body Of Male Dancer" arrenged by Sangeet natak academy, Delhi.
  • Project report in the "Mordern artistic excellence experiment on Physically handicapped through Odissi dance" submitted to Govt of India, dept of Culture.
